HOW TO READ DATE CODES

(FROZEN ITEMS)

As a general rule, you can keep a Frozen Butterball Turkey in its’ original packaging for a minimum 2-year period. The turkey must remain frozen. The packaging must be without tears or holes and the vacuum seal intact. A production date code (beginning with 25) should be printed on the back/side of a Butterball frozen whole turkey bag and may also be on the tag.

Note: Boxed turkey roasts will have the code on an end flap.

An example of Butterball’s production date coding is provided below:

JULIAN DATE CODES – FROZEN ITEMS

2563221202S = 25 –  6 – 322 – 1202 –  S

25 = Hanover Processing Facility
6 = Year “Of Manufacture” – 2016
322 = Day “Of Manufacture” – November 17th
1202 = Time
S = Department
